Last week the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) officially merged with the National Landlords Association (NLA) to become the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA). With the merger, Jodi Berg OBE, a longstanding TDS Board member, was unveiled as the new Chair of the NRLA. Jodi will now be the NRLA representative on the TDS Board.
In this week’s #ExpertView blog, we hear from Jodi Berg, Chair of the newly formed NRLA.
With the new NRLA partnership, the membership will expand to 80,000 landlords, managing half a million properties throughout England and Wales, which makes it the largest landlord association in the private rented sector (PRS) by far.
As an association representing many landlords in the PRS, the NRLA will have a stronger voice to influence the sector on behalf of its many members. At a time like this, with the unprecedented situation many landlords now find themselves in, it is important the industry has that support.
The new NRLA has a bright future and it is great to be on board from the start. We need to encourage landlords to come together and support each other and work with other areas of the sector to bring about positive change for both landlords and tenants – now, more than ever.
RLA has enjoyed a strong relationship with Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) for many years. Whilst I have been an independent non-executive director on the board of TDS, Ben Beadle (who was previously Managing Director of TDS Northern Ireland and Director of Customer Service for TDS) has been appointed Chief Executive of the NRLA. Alan Ward, as the previous Chair of the RLA, was also a long-standing TDS Board member.
What Alan said in a statement about the NRLA merger last year still holds true:
“[As the NRLA], we will be stronger together when presenting a unified voice to government both nationally and locally about the importance of supporting the majority of landlords who do a good job providing the homes to rent the country needs.”
I know both TDS and the NRLA share this common vision in supporting landlords throughout the country.

Jodi is the Chair of the newly formed NRLA (National Residential Landlords Association) and was previously the Chair of the Administrative Justice Forum, a Government advisory body. In addition to this, Jodi is an expert in dispute resolution having for many years been an Independent complaints reviewer for Government organisations, regulators and others.
Jodi’s background includes being a non-executive board member with broad management experience in private and public sectors, a qualified solicitor (no longer in practice), mediator, and Past Board Chair of private companies and public bodies.
As the newly appointed Chair of the NRLA, Jodi is welcomed to the TDS Board as the new NRLA Representative.
